The shoulder/pectoral girdle is very complex. This is what connects your arm to your body and allows for such a large range of motion.

  • The bones involved in the shoulder girdle are the clavicle (collarbone), scapula (shoulder blade), and humerus (upper arm)
  • There are four articulations (joints) in the shoulder girdle. These are the glenohumeral, scapulothoracic, sternoclavicular, and acromioclavicular joints
  • The four rotator cuff muscles of the shoulder are the subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and teres minor. These are very important in the stability of the shoulder
  • The more visible shoulder muscles that we can see are the anterior, lateral, and posterior deltoid muscles
  • The main muscles involved in the shoulder girdle are the pectoralis minor, serratus anterior, rhomboids, levator scapulae, and the trapezius muscles
