WHAT IS STUDENT WELLNESS SERVICES?

Student Wellness' mission is to provide resources and services to help facilitate the development of the whole person by utilizing innovative strategies to promote the student’s optimal well-being and to achieve success in their academic careers. The Department of Student Wellness is comprised of 6 different units, all of which provide health and wellbeing support and services to students and to the campus community including:

PEER SUPPORT PROGRAMS

  • PEER COUNSELLING: The "Student Support Network" (SSN) is a drop-in peer counselling service for students looking for confidential, nonjudgmental support. Book a session at wellness.uoguelph.ca/ssn
  • PEER EDUCATION: The Wellness Education & Promotion Centre (WEPC) offers peer education and programming. Check out the podcast "Shine Cast" (focused on mental well-being) available on Spotify, Apple Music & more. For more info contact ext. 53327 or wellness@uoguelph.ca 
  • PEER-SUPPORTED HEALTHY HABITS: "USHINE" is a peer mentorship program for students looking to set and work towards health & wellness goals with individualized support. Visit uoguel.ph/ESP or email ushine@uoguelph.ca 
  • PEER-SUPPORTED ACTIVE LIFESTYLE: "Gryphons Empowered by Movement" (GEM) is a peer buddy program for students looking for assistance incorporating physical activity into their lives. To be referred to the program, call ext. 52131
  • PEER SUBSTANCE USE SUPPORT: The "Student Recovery Community" (SRC) is an online space for students looking to make changes to their substance use behaviours. Visit uoguel.ph/ESP or email student.recovery@uoguelph.ca

SKILL-BUILDING GROUPS

  • COUNSELLING GROUPS: Counselling Services offers group sessions on topics including anxiety, healthy relationships, social confidence, & a mindfulness drop-in. 1:1 support is also available. wellness.uoguelph.ca/counselling
  • WALKING GROUPS: "Mood Routes" is a walking group to help students build in time for physical activity and mental wellness. View dates at uoguel.ph/mood-routes
  • BODY POSITIVITY TRAINING: The "Body Project" is a workshop for students interested in learning more about self-acceptance, positive body image, and reducing body shaming. View dates on Gryphlife at uoguel.ph/bodyproject
  • MENTAL HEALTH LITERACY TRAINING: Are you looking to learn more about supporting others with their mental health concerns? We have several programs available. For details, email mentalhealth.training@uoguelph.ca
  • SELF-REGULATION: Stress and anxiety workshops including a stress management drop-in and test preparation. View dates on Gryphlife at gryphlife.uoguelph.ca
  • RESILIENCE TRAINING: "SHINE" is a 7-session skill-based workshop for students interested in boosting their overall well-being through learning about topics including self-compassion, gratitude and stress management. View dates at uoguel.ph/shine
  • "Thriving in Action" is a workshop series focused on skills for university life. Upcoming sessions can be viewed on gryphlife.uoguelph.ca
