Student Wellbeing Survey Results

Why We Shifted from the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) to the Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (CCWS)

In previous years, students may have completed the National College Health Assessment (NCHA). While the NCHA provided helpful information about student health behaviours, the Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (CCWS) better aligns with current priorities for student mental health and wellbeing. Additionall participation in the CCWS allows for more across Canada comparisions for post-secondary data.

The shift to the CCWS reflects:

  • A provincial ministry mandate for post-secondary institutions to strengthen planning, accountability, and evidence-informed action related to student mental health
  • A move toward Canadian-based data and benchmarks that reflect the realities of students studying in Canada

How Past Survey Data Still Matters

Data collected through the NCHA remains valuable and continues to inform our understanding of student wellbeing. Where possible, insights from past NCHA surveys are integrated with CCWS.

Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (CCWS)

What is the CCWS?

The Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (CCWS) is a national survey that asks post-secondary students about their wellbeing, mental health, and campus experience. It helps universities and colleges across Canada better understand what’s supporting students, and where change is needed.

By taking part, students help shape a clearer picture of wellbeing on campus and contribute to improvements that matter.

Why We Use the CCWS

Your responses help the University:

  • Understand student wellbeing and mental health trends
  • Identify areas of strength and areas needing more support
  • Inform planning, programs, and services that support students
  • Track changes over time and compare with national data

The CCWS is one of several tools used to guide decisions and support a whole-campus approach to wellbeing.

How the Data Is Used and Protected

Your privacy matters.

  • Responses are confidential and anonymized. Individual students cannot be identified by the University.
  • Data is reported in aggregate, meaning results are shared as group trends, not individual answers.
  • Information is used for planning and improvement.
  • Data is stored and handled securely in accordance with privacy and ethical research standards.

Survey results are shared in summary form to help improve policies, services, and supports for students and aggregated results can be requested for research or campus initiatives, while individual responses remain confidential. To inquire please contact: sws@uoguelph.ca

Why Your Voice Matters

Student wellbeing is complex, and real change starts with listening. By participating in the CCWS, you help ensure that decisions about mental health and wellbeing are informed by student experiences and grounded in evidence.

The CCWS survey will be conducted every three years, and we sincerely thank students who take the time to participate and share their experiences with the campus community.
