SAS Registration Options

SAS has two registration options: Standard or Self-Directed:

  • Standard Registration may be best for you if you require more support in the registration process or have more complex accommodation requirements.
  • Self-Directed Registration may be best for you if you can navigate the registration process more independently by reading emails and attending a group activation workshop, require more basic accommodations, and need access to accommodations quicker.

Choose your preferred registration option based on the considerations outlined below.

All students will be required to complete an application form and submit documentation that aligns with our guidelines. Students are responsible for meeting SAS deadlines, including the Exam Booking Deadlines, and following SAS processes and procedures regardless of the registration option you choose.

Standard Registration

The Standard registration option may be most appropriate for you if you are looking to:

  • Attend a one-hour initial appointment with a SAS Advisor

  • Receive more detailed or complex accommodations (i.e. navigating campus with a mobility aid, alternate format for visual course materials, graduate thesis and research, placement or clinical)

  • Discuss your disability, academic impacts, documentation, and appropriate accommodations with your SAS Advisor and determine appropriate accommodations together

  • Review accommodation information, SAS processes and procedures, and important deadlines directly with your SAS Advisor

  • Receive an overview of the various SAS or Student Wellness services and other on-campus supports that may be appropriate for you from your SAS Advisor at the point of registration

  • Get support with the transition to university from high school at the point of registration

  • Wait up to approximately 2-3 weeks for your initial appointment after you’ve been assigned to an SAS Advisor

Self-Directed Registration

The Self-Directed registration option may be most appropriate for you if you are looking to:

  • Receive your SAS accommodations electronically without meeting with a SAS Advisor and attend a one-hour group activation workshop on how to use your accommodations

  • Receive more common accommodations (i.e. a quiet environment to write exams, extra time on exams, peer note-taking program, extensions on assignments)

  • Provide thorough information in the SAS application form on how your disability affects your academics to help inform your SAS accommodations

  • Review accommodation information, learn about SAS processes and procedures, and important SAS deadlines by reading emails, reviewing the SAS Student Portal, attending a group activation workshop, and/or attending the SAS Daily Drop-In

  • Be assigned an SAS Advisor who you can book a follow-up appointment with as needed. You will be responsible for following up with your Advisor in a timely manner if you require accommodations beyond what was initially provided by SAS.

  • Transfer from another post-secondary institution or return for further education and have previously received accommodations at the post-secondary level

  • Get access to your accommodations quicker (up to approximately 5 business days after you’ve been assigned to your SAS Advisor)
