Meeting With Your SAS Advisor

Once you're registered with Student Accessibility Services (SAS), you will be assigned an SAS Advisor. It’s necessary to meet with your Advisor before accommodation eligibility can be activated.

Booking an Appointment:

Book an appointment with your SAS Advisor as soon as we send your Advisor's name using the SAS Student Portal (see step-by-step guide for booking an appointment). You will be offered the first available appointment. Some restrictions on accommodations may apply depending on academic deadlines throughout each semester.

*Accommodations take time to set up, and Advisors’ schedules book up at busy times of the year.

Meeting With An Advisor For the First Time: What to Expect

You’ll receive your appointment times and details once your request to meet with your Advisor using the SAS Student Portal (see step-by-step guide for booking an appointment). Once you have your appointment date and time, attend your semester registration appointment. During your meeting with your Advisor, you’ll:

  • Discuss your individual accommodations and support requirements
  • Set-up classroom and exam accommodations as appropriate
  • Review courses and disability-related support for each

Please note, if you participate in START Accessible, you will have access to your summer registration appointment prior to the start of class. If you need something to make your appointment more accessible, please let your advisor know. How to use Teams for appointments.

Contacting Your Advisor

If you have non-urgent questions for your advisor, email is one of the best ways to reach your Advisor. Please watch for an auto-reply in case they are out of the office or unavailable. Otherwise, responses should be within 1 to 2 business days. If your advisor is not available and your issue is of a time sensitive nature, reach out to sas@uoguelph.ca to be directed appropriately.

Need help today? Our Daily Drop-in resource has been created to provide you with timely, same-day assistance from SAS staff members about SAS processes, procedures, or general questions related to your academic accommodations. We can also help connect you with your Advisor to follow up on specific concerns if needed.

If you are having difficulty reaching your Advisor, contact the Student Wellness Front Desk at 519-824-4120 ext. 56208 or sas@uoguelph.ca.
