Friendship Bench in Support of Mental Health

A new “friendship bench” intended to encourage discussion of mental health was unveiled today at the University of Guelph.

The bright yellow bench is located in Branion Plaza for community members to unwind and discuss their own mental health and that of others.

The Friendship Bench was created to encourage discussion of mental health challenges.

The bench contains a URL for campus and provincial resources, and services for mental health and suicide prevention.

Campus Celebration - Gift from the Arrell Family Foundation

The University community is invited to join President Vaccarino and the Arrell family to celebrate a transformational gift from the Arrell Family Foundation. Matched by the University of Guelph, the gift leverages the recent support of $77 million from the Government of Canada.

All staff, faculty and students are invited to celebrate the largest single gift to the University in its history.  Wednesday, March 29 at 4:30 to 5:30 in the Summerlee Science Complex.  Light refershements will be served.

Tie-dye with SAS

March 21 at 5pm to 7:30 pm in UC 441

Join the SAS Peer Helper team for an awesome evening of tie-dye! Please bring your own white clothing item. Free pizza and cookies will be provided.  We will be playing other games too if you want to come and hangout.

Alcohol Survey

Student Wellness is conducting a research study about post-secondary students' opinions and attitudes about alcohol consumption. Focus groups will be held on campus on March 21, 22, and 23. Each group should take about 60-90 minutes and all participants will receive a $25 gift card! Students wishing to register should contact Alison Burnett (x54333) or Melanie Bowman (x56046). Time commitment is about 60 to 90 minutes.

Study Hall

Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30pm, SAS Peer Helpers will lead a study hall, which is an opportunity to dedicate a specific time slot to studying.  Working alongside other students sometimes helps with motivation and staying focused.

A referral from an SAS Advisor is required.  Please direct questions about the study hall to and include "Study Hall" in the subject line.

Weekly Grad Student Support Group

Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30pm running March 7 - April 18.

This is a confidential group to talk about your concerns. It is not a workshop format.

The Joubin/Selig Scholarship Fund

The Joubin/Selig Scholarship Fund was established by Toronto Foundation donors to provide financial assistance to post-secondary students in Ontario with permanent physical (mobility) disabilities who wish to pursue an education in their chosen field of study.

Scholarships from the Joubin/Selig Scholarship Fund are available in competition among qualifying students enrolled in colleges and universities in Ontario. This grant stream is now open. The application deadline is Friday, April 21, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
