Exam Centre Facilities
The Exam Centre is located on the second floor [1] of the McLaughlin Library and has 12 private and 3 small group rooms available for tests and exams.
Our computers have no internet access and, as such, are considered word processors. A number of computers are equipped with adaptive technology such as Zoomtext, Jaws, Kurzweil 3000, Kurzweil 1000 and Dragon Naturally Speaking. Reader/scribes are arranged as needed for individual students based on the accommodations specified by their advisor.
Washrooms are located near the Exam Centre. A waiting area includes wardrobes where students can leave coats and belongings.
Alternate Exam Locations
Due to space limitations, it may be necessary for students to write at a location other than the SAS Exam Centre. When this is the case, we notify students by e-mail ahead of time. During the final exam periods in December and April, about 75% of the exams we administer are in alternate locations. We assign students to locations based on the type of accommodations they require.
Exam Day Policies and Rules:
- Arrive on time. Your time will not be extended if you arrive late. For midterms, you may not be permitted to write if you arrive 30 minutes in. For final exams, you are not allowed in after one hour beyond the scheduled start time.
- Bring your Student ID: You are expected to produce your University of Guelph ID card when checking in.
- You need to remain for the minimum exam time: During final exams, you are not permitted to leave the Exam Centre until an hour into the scheduled class time. If you finish early, you must remain until the hour passes. This restriction applies even if you started early due to accommodations.
- During the exam: No talking or communicating with others is allowed. Save work periodically if using a word processor. You must finish the exam during the allotted time; no extra time for administrative tasks or checking spelling/grammar.
- Using the Washroom: You may use the washroom; report to the Exam Desk and you will be escorted.
- Permitted Items: You may bring everything you need including a pen, pencil, eraser, calculator, wired headphones (if approved as an accommodation). Mobile/electronic devices, backpacks, purses, coats, food of any kind, calculators, notes, books, or other papers are generally not allowed in the exam room unless it's an accommodation or specified by the instructor; discuss this before the exam.
- Leaving the Exam: Refer to the exam proctor for specific instructions. Students waiting to leave are not allowed to use communication devices.
- Sick Policy: Do not come to campus if you are sick, have symptoms or have been advised to stay home. Check your course outline for what to do in the event that you are ill.
Exam Centre Cancellation Policy:
- If you no longer require a booking, you must cancel it using the SAS Student Portal.
- SAS charges a $30 no-show fee when a student does not appear and the booking is not cancelled.
- Do not come to campus if you are sick, have symptoms or have been advised to stay home. Check your course outline for what to do in the event that you are ill.
