STI Testing Clinics

Students have two options to access STI testing:

  1. Weekly Drop-in STI Testing

    • Mondays 1:00–4:00pm
    • Tuesdays 1:00–4:00pm
    • Fridays 1:00–3:00pm
  2. Book an appointment with a nurse Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm by calling 519-824-4120 x52131

The drop-in is for students who are asymptomatic: meaning you are experiencing no symptoms. If you are sexually active, we recommend you get tested once a year, or between partners. If you are experiencing symptoms, you should book an appointment with Health Services to receive information and treatment.

Standard Asymptomatic STI Testing FAQ

Who is this for?

Any University of Guelph student who is sexually active – regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation or relationship status.

What does it test for and how?

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea: two of the most common bacterial STIs. Urine and/or self-swabs will be collected. The nurse can assist with additional site exposure (such as throat) if you wish.

Do I need to have symptoms to get tested?

No, you do not need to have symptoms to obtain a standard STI test. Some people are infected but don’t experience any symptoms at all. Regular STI testing is recommended for all sexually active individuals.

What should I do if I am experiencing symptoms?

If you have symptoms of an STI, you should obtain an STI test as soon as possible. That is easily done by calling Health Services at 519-824-4120 x52131 to book an appointment with a physician, or by calling WDG Public Health [1] at 1-800-265-7293 x7006. In the interim, using barrier contraceptive (condoms) during sexual activity or abstaining altogether until you get your results is strongly recommended.

What if I have questions about STIs or other topics?

The nurses at Student Health Services are very knowledgeable about sexual health in general, and they are available to answer your questions during your appointment.

Bloodwork STI Testing FAQ

Is testing for HIV, Hepatitis B and C and other STIs available?

Tests that involve bloodwork are not offered at Student Health Services, but a SHS physician can refer you to an external testing facility. Following your nursing appointment, you can book an appointment to speak with a physician about whether you may be at risk for less common STIs such as VDRL (syphilis), Hepatitis B and C, and HIV. If it is determined you may be at risk, the physician will order any test that might be necessary, and you will receive a requisition to take to any LifeLab to get your blood tested. You can also book these tests directly through WDG Public Health [3] (160 Chancellor’s Way, Guelph).

Think you need a Pap Test?

Check out the new Ontario guidelines [4] for Pap Test screenings for cervical cancer. Students can get a Pap Test at Health Services. Book an appointment by calling 519-824-4120 x52131.
