Dr. Carla Edwards

Dr. Edwards is a Sport Psychiatrist whose practice focuses on the treatment of mental illness and psychological struggles in athletes of all ages. She completed her Bachelor of Science and Masters’ degrees in Chemistry at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick while also competing on their varsity volleyball team in the Atlantic University conference. She was inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Sport Hall of Fame in 2015. She obtained her medical degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland before completing a psychiatry residency at McMaster University. She has been an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at McMaster University since 2005. Prior to opening a Sport Psychiatry practice, she worked in crisis stabilization and child and adolescent psychiatry, and also coauthored a chapter for the Emergency Psychiatry textbook. Most recently she was named High Performance Mental Health Advisor with Swimming Canada.
