Instructions for the Accessible Lift in the John T. Powell Building

The John T. Powell building is equipped with a key-pad operated accessible lift.  There are two floors accessed by the lift.  The Health and Performance Centre is located on the 2nd floor of this building.  Entrance to the 2nd floor of the Athletics Centre is via this lift however you must have keys for the 2nd floor entrance (you can pick up these keys at Client Services in the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre).

A code is required to operate this lift.  Please see Student Health Services for the code or contact the Health and Performance Centre at 519-767-5011 ext. 1.  Please be aware that there is a street level, accessible entrance to the 2nd floor at the east side of the building (near the pedestrian cross walk).

The following are instructions on how to use the accessible lift.

  1. Enter the code to engage the lift.  If the code has been entered correctly, a small green light will appear on the key pad.  If the code was not accepted, you will see a red light.  Continue to enter the code until the green light appears.
  2. Press and hold the red button until the door automatically opens.  Be aware that the lift may have to come from the other floor so you may need to hold the red button for a minute until it arrives.
  3. Once the door opens, proceed into the lift.  Mind any difference between the floor of the building and the floor of the lift.
  4. The door will automatically close after 15 seconds.
  5. Once the door closes, enter the same code on the interior key pad.  If the code has been entered correctly, a small green light will appear on the key pad.  If the code was not accepted, you will see a red light.  Continue to enter the code until the green light appears.
  6. Once you see the green light appear, hold the button to the floor you wish to travel       (1 or 2). You must hold the floor button until you reach the desired floor.  Be aware that the lift will stop if you do not hold the button.
  7. Once you have arrived at the desired floor, the door will automatically open.
  8. Exit the lift.

Problem Solving:

  2. Hold the red button until the door opens.

  1. Check to see if the green light is illuminated.  If it isn’t, re-enter the code until the green light appears.
  2. Press and hold the floor button until you reach the desired floor.
  3. There is an emergency phone in the lift that is automatically connected with the University of Guelph’s Security Services.
