Choosing a great summer camp for your child

Summer camp can lead to great memories that last a lifetime. They can also be a fantastic way for your child to grow as a person and learn valuable leadership and life skills. With so many camps available, it can be quite a task to choose the camp that’s right for your child. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The camp should be more than happy to make you and your child feel welcome and comfortable.
Some key things to look for:
Activities: Start with what your child loves to do and how active they want to be. Do they want to spend their summer playing a specific sport or are they more interested in general activities.
Inclusiveness: Your child should feel included no matter what their athletic ability. It’s important to consider the camp’s ability to accommodate a variety of different needs. When it comes to sports camps, each child should be able to participate at their own level and still have fun.
Flexibility: Is the camp completely directed by staff or do kids have some say in what they’ll be doing day-to-day. Even small choices can make a big difference for a child.
Trained staff: You’ll want to ensure the staff is well trained to make the experience fun for the kids and safe. Camps that emphasize physical activity or sports should provide details on how they prepare and instruct the campers to prevent injuries. Make sure the camp is fully accredited.
Communication: The camp staff should be ready and open to communicate with you both before and during the camp experience. You don’t want any surprises. Find out how they plan to communicate with you and how you can get in touch with staff if there’s an emergency.
These are all the factors that go into planning all the Gryphon Summer Camp activities.
“Everyone involved is dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for the kids. We want the kids to have so much fun, they don’t even realize how much they’re learning,” says Justin Toth, supervisor for the Gryphon Summer Camps.
It starts with the camp coordinators who can help you pick the right camp for your child. The camp counselors, instructors and varsity coaching staff are all highly trained and know how to implement activities that create an engaging environment kids will love. Our team takes the time to welcome the kids and build rapport right from the start to make them comfortable. Our experience in athletics means we teach the kids the right techniques to stay injury-free. From warm-ups and stretching to staying hydrated, safety is our main concern.
