What does GuardMe Canada Health Insurance Cover?

Immunization and Flu Clinics

Seasonal Flu Shots Are Free For Everyone

All residents of Ontario over 6 months of age are eligible to receive the annual influenza vaccine at no charge. The vaccine is available at Health Services, your family physician, or through Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health or other public health units throughout the province.

Medical Notes

Students are advised to speak with their academic counsellor before requesting a medical note for academic consideration. The medical notes are only given if there is a significant amount of grades involved - see Grounds for Academic Consideration for details.

Other Services

  • Primary Health Care
  • Immediate pregnancy testing
  • Emergency contraceptive pills are available on site
  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing - No appointment needed.
  • Allergy shots and immunization clinic - must see Services Health Services physician before starting
  • Diabetic students can obtain a free container for syringe disposal and return it to Health Services for biomedical waste disposal

The Dispensary

Health Services offers a Dispensary for birth control pills that are prescribed by Health Services doctors only. The Student Health and Benefit Plan is billed directly and there is no dispensing fee.

Dispensary Hours

Monday-Friday: 8:30am to 12:15pm and 1:15pm to 4:30pm.

Nursing Services

Health Services provides nursing care and services. Nurses provide immunizations and other prescribed medications as well as providing information and education on many health-related issues. 

Physician-prescribed allergy injections are provided by appointment only. 

All other nursing services are on a drop-in basis with no appointment required between 9:00 am - 11:30 am and between 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Our mission is to provide comprehensive health promotion, disease prevention and primary medical care to full-time and part-time, undergraduate and graduate students and their families, as well as visitors to the campus.  We contribute to the success of the University of Guelph's academic mission by meeting the health education and clinical care needs of its students.
