Mental Well-Being Awareness Week
The 1 in 5 Committee is proud to present Mental Well-being Awareness Week from November 4 to November 10. Students and staff at the University of Guelph developed this initiative to promote mental wellness and provide students with resources to help support their mental well-being. All of the events during this week are FREE and all students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to attend. For a complete list of events, see below:
Sunday Night Cinema - Sunday, November 4, 4:30 pm & 9:00 pm, THRN 1200
The movie is “Inside Out”! Come out at 4:30 pm or 9 pm for a free movie and free popcorn!
T-Shirt Distribution - Monday, November 5, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Raithby Porch
The Wellness Education Centre will be handing out FREE 1 in 5 t-shirts from 12-2 pm. Come grab one and show your support for mental well-being.
Beyond Territorial Acknowledgement - Monday, November 5, 1:00 - 2:30 pm, Aboriginal Resource Centre
This event is developed by the Aboriginal Resource as part of Treaties Recognition Week and facilitated by visiting Elder Jan Sherman. Territorial acknowledgements have the potential to simply become words with little integrity unless supported by relationship building and intentional action. Jan will engage you in exploring what this means, and how to move beyond territorial acknowledgements based on traditional teachings about the land.
Fitness and Yoga Class - Monday, November 5, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm, Peter Clark Hall
De-stress with a fitness workout, and then cool down with yoga and meditation at this free class from 6:30-7:30 pm!
UC Courtyard Fair - Tuesday, November 6, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, UC Courtyard
Come out and learn about all the resources available to support you on campus from 10 am-4 pm! Campus partners will be there with fun, interactive displays.
How to Help a Friend Workshop -Tuesday, November 6, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, UC 430
Wondering how to help a friend who is struggling with mental health? This workshop from 1-2 pm will help teach you how best to support them. Free refreshments!
Perfectionism and Procrastination Workshop - Tuesday, November 6, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, LIB 384
Do you struggle with procrastinating schoolwork or refusing to hand things in until they’re perfect? This library workshop from 1-2 pm will help you manage those tendencies and become a more effective student. Registration on lib.uoguelph.ca required.
Drumming Workshop - Tuesday, November 6, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm, PCH
This is a guided drumming class using plastic buckets and sticks! Run by Art Not Shame, this event does not require any experience – just come have fun from 5:00-6:30 pm! Free refreshments! Registration on GryphLife required.
