Counselling: What to Expect

Booking an Appointment

  • Call ext. 53244 to schedule.
  • Come in person to UC level 3, South Elevator. Follow posted signage to Counselling Services front desk. Ask to schedule.

Borrowing Library for Counselling Resources

University of Guelph Counselling Services hosts a borrowing library, free of charge, for common counselling books and resources for students that are accessing Counselling Services. If recommended by their counsellor to a particular resource, students can sign out books such as Mind Over Mood, The Shyness and Social Anxiety Workbook, Quiet, The Feeling Good Handbook, The Five Love Languages, and many more.

Confidentiality

Counselling Services respects confidentiality at all times and is guided by the laws of the Province, the University's policy, and its own policy on confidentiality. Therefore we cannot share information about a student without the student's written permission.

Academic Support

As indicated in the University Calendar for Academic Consideration, "documentation" is required whenever psychological/emotional grounds are identified as the primary reason for academic difficulties.

Therapy Groups

Groups led by counsellors typically meet 1-2 hours weekly and run from 5-8 weeks Fall and Winter semesters. If you would like to attend a group, you will need a referral from one of our counsellor/therapists or a physician from Health Services.
